Review: Learning Secrets 6 Year Anniversary at Beauty Bar with CLASSIXX & WOOLFY 1/22/10

I was psyched when I first heard that Learning Secrets had booked Classixx and Woolfy for their six year anniversary party. It seems that Ian Orth & Jeremy are kindred spirits with me when it comes to all things disco, italo, & boogie.
Unfortunately while arriving fashionably late we missed the opening dj’s sets as well as Woolfy’s performance. Beauty Bar had the back parking lot fenced off where they had set up a tent and were having several bands play. We entered thru the rear gate and quickly rushed past the band playing outside(sorry guys). I was in a hurry and had been anxiously anticipating this night for quite a while and no one could stop me now. We could hear the enticing pulse of the bass and the sweet sounds of synth arpeggios in the air.
It was actually kind of hard to squeeze into the back door just past the men’s bathroom as the building was entirely rammed full of people. Wow, I hadn’t seen Beauty Bar this crazy since SXSW ’09. Classixx was already mid-set and fully rocking out dropping nu-disco bombs and classic deep house gems to a writhing throng of super sexy and up for it party people. The boys mixes were spot on and their programming was tight. Even though you almost needed a shoehorn to maneuver your way through the thick sweaty crowd everyone seemed quite gracious and in a pleasant yet festive mood.
We eventually worked our way onto the dance floor and wiggled for a few before heading to the bar to grab some drinks. It was quite a night, I ran into friends from all kinds of scenes, all the way from goths to ravers. Great job guys, happy anniversary, and cheers to another 6 years! -Adam Warped

PRESS RELEASE : POSR “Cocaine Nose Job” Feat. Larry Tee and Alexander Technique
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WHAT KIND OF NOSE JOB? “COCAINE NOSE JOB”
THE UPCOMING SINGLE FROM AUSTIN’S
ELECTO-PUNK BAND, POSR
Austin-based POSR is poised to revolutionize dance floors and playlists with the release of “Cocaine Nose Job,” the first single off their forthcoming album Known Unknown, to be released by Houston’s Tierra Studios late spring/early summer 2010.
POSR, the latest musical brainchild of world renowned dance music producer Jake Childs, showcases Childs’ edgy post-punk vocals riding over a wave of pulsating, driving beats.
“Cocaine Nose Job” also features a “Blogula” remix by the world famous musical tastemakers Larry Tee and Alexander Technique. Larry Tee is well known for his effort in coining the term “electroclash” as well as launching the careers of many of New York based artists including RuPaul, Scissor Sisters, Fischerspooner, and Avenue D.
“When we started our blogula mix of ‘Cocaine Nose Job,’ we realized we were gonna have to go deep into our electro roots and drag some noise out,” says Tee. “But since electro alone isn’t a radical formula anymore, we are blasting in elements of a sticky bottom end, and a grindy new electronic weeze designed to make the floor go OFF.”
“For the remixes, I wanted to call upon a legend in the electroclash movement, and that would be Larry Tee,” says Childs. “He’s definitely a huge inspiration in attitude and the stuff he spins has hipped me onto a lot of new sounds and talents. PLUS HE’S A F@%$ING LEGEND! Viva electroclash!”
“Materialism is a beautiful thing, but it also can be a dangerous thing if you let it fully overtake you,” says Childs, “but so can be said true of non-materialism.” POSR is “id vs. ego in its purest form.”
You may preview songs from the album at http://weareposr.com
POSR and Larry Tee will be performing on February 11 at Beauty Bar (Austin, TX) and February 12 at The Minc Backroom (Houston, TX). POSR’s other Texas dates include January 28th at The Scoot Inn (Austin, TX), January 29th at Rooftop (Houston, TX), January 30th at Chupacabra Cantina (Austin, TX).

By far this was one of the most memorable shows to me this year because every track rocked ! Chris Casual early this month had hipped me on to them but i really hadn’t payed much attention until 2 weeks ago . To me there like 20 20 vision meets Siouxie reminded me allot of Random Factors earlier stuff and 2020 visons sound (that they so strayed away from
but with an updated twist!
